I wouldn't mind a book that taught me more, because I'm sure I don't know everything still.Īnyway - I'm also happy to answer questions here as best I can if anyone has any questions about how stuff is done. Hi Fred, Hi, Im using Protel99SE and have been apprroached by Altium with an upgrade path to Protel 2004. HAs anyone got 2004 that could give a heads up on how it compares to 99SE Fred S 2. Personally, I found the database aspect of DXP to be a bit of a headache when I first tried DXP, and the manual wasn't much help - (I feel like Altium are deliberately terse on some aspects of their software, so that they can sell seminar seats) but just spending a bit of time using it and playing about trying to make it do things I used to be able to do in 99SE had me up and running with it pretty fast. Im using Protel99SE and have been apprroached by Altium with an upgrade path to Protel 2004. Yeah you can use it easily enough with no manual to capture a schematic and make a board (well, I picked up 99se when I first used it, no problems) and I moved to DXP from there with no real hassles but there's always cool tips and ticks and better ways to do things. Because there's a lot of ways different people use it to do what they want. I think the issue with protel is there's a lot of functionality in the various modules that not everyone needs to know about. I still maintain that a book should not be necessary for properly written software.
